Mongolia exported 64.7 million tons of coal to China as of December 12
Mongolia exported 64.7 million tons of coal to China as of December 12, citing the country's Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry. The country was able to exceed the pre-pandemic figure, the Ministry noted. Today, the mining industry is one of the main drivers of the Mongolian economy. Mongolia is rich in natural resources such as gold, silver, iron, coal, copper, molybdenum, tungsten, tin, nickel, zinc and fluorspar. However, most of the coal mined in Mongolia comes from the Tavan Tolgoi coal deposit, which is one of the largest coal deposits in the world. Its reserves amount to 6.5 billion tons of coal, about 40% of these reserves are high-calorie coking coal. The Asian country has set a target of exporting the same amount of coal in 2024, according to Mongolia's Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry.
