Livestock census starts in Mongolia
A livestock census has started in Mongolia, the country's National Statistics Office announced on Thursday.
“The census will last until December 17. It plays an important role in assessing the contribution of the livestock industry to the national economy of Mongolia, planning income and expenses in the livestock sector. The data obtained is also used in the payment of compensation to victims of natural disasters," the official statement says.
The livestock sector is one of the main contributors to the Mongolian economy, as almost 40% of the country's nomadic population depends on livestock farming.
There were 71.1 million head of livestock in the country in 2022, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia said.
A livestock census is conducted annually in Mongolia.
