Meetings and discussions in anticipation of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Biological Diversity are being held at the State House. Heads of diplomatic missions of 17 countries, as well as about 130 representatives of international, government, private sector and civil society organizations are participating in this summit meeting and discussion. The President of Mongolia, Mr. Khurelsukh, opened the meeting and discussion and said that since the implementation of the "Billion Trees" national movement, the number of seeds and saplings of tree nurseries operating nationwide has reached 37 million, which has increased 4 times in one year. He said that it is necessary to increase the annual stock of seeds and saplings to 100 million. Mongolia is paying special attention at all levels to fulfill its obligations and commitments under the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase absorption. The amount of greenhouse gases emitted by Mongolia is high compared to its population and economy, but it accounts for 0.1 percent of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions. According to a study by an international organization, the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by Mongolia has increased by 65 percent in the last 20 years. The energy, agriculture and industrial sectors were the main contributors to this growth.
