Deputy Foreign Minister participates in ASEAN Regional Forum
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Munkhjin has took part in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), expressing Mongolia’s position on regional and international security issues.
The forum was held virtually for the first time due to the global outbreak of COVID-19. Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of 27 countries including, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-Wha, Deputy State Secretary of the U.S. Stephen Biegun, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui participated in the forum and introduced the foreign and security policies and activities of their respective countries. The ARF comprises 27 members, including the 10 ASEAN member states, the 10 ASEAN dialogue partners (Australia, the United States, the Republic of Korea, China, India, Canada, Russia, New Zealand, Japan, and the European Union), Bangladesh, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Timor-Leste, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and one ASEAN observer (Papua New Guinea). The ARF has been established in 1994 with aims to maintain peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region through the establishment of security dialogue mechanisms, mutual trust, and preventive diplomacy. Mongolia joined the forum in 1998.
