Mongolia to partner with the U.S. side in child protection
Minister of Labor and Social Protection A.Ariunzaya received Ambassador of the U.S to Mongolia Michael Klecheski, exchanging opinions on child protection, child employment, social protection.
Citing that issues related to child rights and gender-based violence have been increasing amid the pandemic, Ambassador Michael Klecheski said, “We have a wide range of cooperation. The child protection issue is one of them. According to the Compact Agreement on Child Protection, the U.S. State Department has undertaken a duty to select an implementer and provide financing. I took part in the successful realization of the same project in the Philippines. This issue covers a number of sectors and it is crucial to make a proper arrangement.” While noting that employment is the main issue in Mongolia, Minister A.Ariunzaya mentioned social protection must focus on target groups. As of 2018, the poverty rate in Mongolia is at 28.4 percent. Half of them are children. Therefore, the Minister expressed her pleasure in collaboration in this direction. Aside from it, the Minister informed that she has contacted the U.S. Social Protection Organization with a view to upgrading the social protection of Mongolians living in the United States. In response, the organization explained that Mongolian citizens will be able to receive social protection if Mongolia is included in the list of eligible countries. Therefore, the Mongolian side has submitted its relevant document twice and awaiting its response.
