The Government of Mongolia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $80 million loan and grant agreements to provide high-quality health care services in selected disadvantaged ger areas of Ulaanbaatar city, and provinces. This is the first project of over $158 million investment program on Improving Access to Health Services for Disadvantaged Groups. The investment program is ADB’s first multitranche financing facility in the health sector in Mongolia. The program consists of three projects that will establish two district hospitals in Chingeltei and Khan-Uul districts in Ulaanbaatar by linking in- and outpatient services for surgery, obstetrics, gynecology and other disciplines. The program will expand Khovd and Uvs provincial hospitals, upgrade the National Ambulance Call Center and establish 10 family health centers in Ulaanbaatar and six provincial-level health centers to strengthen primary health care. It will also support health financing reform to ensure more efficient use of resources to meet the medium- and long-term needs of the sector.
