A database containing more than 30,000 Mongolian music pieces has been built in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to the region's publicity department. After 10 years of collecting, sorting and digitalization work, the database has collected music pieces from Mongolia, China, Russia's Republic of Tuva, Kalmykia, Buryatia and the Altai region as well as musical works of 5,600 musicians in Mongolia, China, and Russia. The database mainly features intangible cultural heritage including Mongolian long tune, khoomii throat singing, folk songs and music played by the horse-headed fiddle or morinhuur. The database building project is one of the region's efforts to protect and preserve original Mongolian music and is important for protecting the copyright of Mongolian music pieces. Statistics show that there are over 100,000 Mongolian music pieces in Mongolia, China, and Russia. China accounts for 40,000, 30,000 in Mongolia and 35,000 in Russia according to the Inner Mongolia paradise grassland media and culture company, which is responsible for the database building project.
