A discussion on "Changes for the system to promote environmentally friendly cashmere production in Mongolia" was held by United Nations Development Program /UNDP/ in Mongolia and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry. At the discussion, representatives from world brands such as Gucci, H&M, and UNIQLO noted that they’re ready to cooperate with Mongolia, if the country provides cashmere in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. The discussions were organized to support initiatives and development of an environmentally friendly cashmere industry in Mongolia. The representative of H&M Asia, Sherry Guo said, "Our brand is the world's third-largest garment factory. Some major brands in the world are beginning to refuse violation of animal rights and non-environmentally friendly production. It doesn’t mean cashmere products will be completely removed.” In addition, Mongolia produces about 40 percent of world's cashmere supplies. Cashmere of Mongolian goats is warmer than other countries’ cashmere because of Mongolia’s harsh climate. To withstand the country's bitter climate, cashmere goats not only have a fleece of thick long hairs, but also an undercoat of fine down.
