Khublai Khaan and Marco Polo Cup held
Aims of the tournament consisted of expanding humanitarian cooperation and tourism between Mongolia and Italy.
The second Mongolia-Italy golf tournament KhublaiKhaan and Marco Polo Cup 2018 took place at the initiative of the Mongolian Embassy in Italy. The cup was held at the Riverside Golf Club in Songinokhairkhan District, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Aims of the tournament consisted of expanding humanitarian cooperation and tourism between Mongolia and Italy. The organizers said that the growth of the participation of Mongolian and Italian businesspersons’ in the tournament has great significance to the expansion of the Mongolia-Italy trade and economic cooperation. Ambassador of Mongolia to Italy Jambaldorj.Ts said, “Marco Polo, one of the first traveler of Italy to Europe came to Mongolia during the coronation of Great Khan of the Mongolian Empire Khublai, and worked as an advisor for over 20 years. Therefore, we named the tournament after him in order to restore and recollect historical ties between the two countries.” Last year, the Marco Polo Cup 2017 was organized in Rome, Italy by the Embassy of Mongolia. Seven golfers from Mongolia completed, including Nemenkhbaatar.B, the first national golf champion, and Munkhjargal.B, winner of the Handicap National Golf Championship. Additionally, 60 golfers from the Diplomatic and International Golf Association and Marco Simone Golf Club of Rome competed in the tournament.
