Documentaries about intangible cultural heritage released

Documentaries about 10 intangible cultural heritage of the Mongols have been created jointly with the scholars and filmmakers with assistance from the Asia-Pacific Center for Protection.

The opening ceremony of the documentaries themed ‘Intangible cultural heritage of the Mongols: Magnificence of nomadic culture’ was held at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery. States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage are responsible for the registration and protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), as well as for the public recognition, passing it to the next generations, with the involvement of the public, especially the children and youth. In this regard, the Foundation for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage NGO created documentaries about 10 intangible cultural heritage of the Mongols jointly with the scholars and filmmakers with assistance from the Asia-Pacific Center for Protection of intangible cultural heritage. A total  of 14 elements including traditional folk long song, traditional music of horse head fiddle, traditional music of fife, traditional folk dance, epic, throat singing, Naadam (traditional festival), technique of flute performance, Mongolian calligraphy, traditional craftsmanship of the Mongol ger, the traditional felt dwelling and its associated customs, knuckle-bone shooting, coaxing rituals for camels, falconry and traditional practices of worshipping the sacred sites have been inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was passed in 2003 and Mongolia has joined the convention in 2005.
