An Honored Athlete of Mongolia Gangaamaa flew to Pakistan to climb the K2 Mountain. She will start her climb on June 18 and spend two months, returning home on August 18. K2 located at 8611 meters above sea level is the highest point of Karakoram range, Pakistan. It is the second highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest. Over 300 alpinists have reached its peak before. In 2013, Gangaamaa made her first climb to K2, but failed to reach the peak due to snowfalls. Some of her fellow alpinists lost their lives and the team stopped the climb at 7000m. Afterwards, alpinist Usukhbayar climbed the K2 in 2017, but also didn’t reach the peak. Gangaamaa’s climb will be the third attempt from Mongolia.

“Mongolian alpinist should be recorded in the mountaineering history of the world. My first attempt was imaginary and full of fear, but this time I have well prepared and trained psychologically and physically based on my previous experience,” said Gangaamaa. Her total budget is USD 35 thousand and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Sports and the Physical Culture and Sports Authority pledged to provide a certain amount of the funding.
