Mongolia is one of 13 countries taking part in Asia’s Milk Production initiative. The member countries have set an objective to increase milk production by 75 million liters by 2025. Mongolia has over 200 milk production factories with the capacity to produce 900 million liters a year. However, these factories currently operate at only 10 percent of their production capacity. Mongolia imports 4,000 tons of powdered milk each year. Head of the Food Production Policy Implementation Department of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Gantogtokh.T noted, “If milk processing factories operate at full capacity, we would not only be able to meet all domestic milk needs but also be capable of exporting milk.”
