Agriculture ministry focuses on food self-sufficiency

Deputy Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Saule.J attended the monthly meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia. Saule.J presented about the production of the sector, current state, further objectives and investment opportunities. The Ministry intends to satisfy population’s need for basic food commodities from domestic production and attaches attention on providing quality and safety of food at all stages, noted the Deputy Minister. The Ministry also aims to increase the supply of some types of groceries such as fruits and rice and to export organic meat, milk and cashmere products and to boost agricultural eco-tourism in future. Of all the non-mining sectors of the economy, agriculture represents the most significant in terms of creating employment opportunities, contributing to the regional development, as well as the potential for export revenues and the reduction of imports through domestic substitution.
