The European Union’s (EU) Trade-Related Assistance for Mongolia (TRAM) Project was launched at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The EUR 5 million project will be running for two years until 2020, with an aim to diversify Mongolia’s export goods. The TRAM Project is to be co-implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU Delegation to Mongolia and the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Although Mongolia has an opportunity to export 7,200 types of products to the EU member states tariff-free, only about 10 goods including cashmere and leather products are exported today. The project objective is to enhance Mongolia’s international trade and economic diversification and to contribute to sustainable economic growth and development of the country. Although Mongolian potential to export animal-origin products to the EU is high, standards of Mongolia and EU should be complied with. Therefore, a standardization project was held between 2014 and 2017 to bring a new related bill on standardization, which is expected to be adopted this July. Adoption of the bill will enable the export of animal-origin products.
