Annual ice festival ‘Blue Pearl -2018’ will be organized for the 19th time on the frozen Khuvsgul Lake in March 2018.
Annual ice festival ‘Blue Pearl -2018’ will be organized for the 19th time on the frozen Khuvsgul Lake in March 2018. The ice festival was organized for the first time in 2000 with aims to pay a tribute to Khuvsgul lake and surrounding Mountains as well as to preserve the lake. As for this year, ice festival will be celebrated under the theme ‘Let’s love and preserve Khuvsgul lake’. “In this year’s festival, international hockey and figure skating teams will participate as well as a mini town will be built featuring characteristics of six ethnicities including Buryatia, Darkhad, and Khotgoid, especially the Tsaatan or reindeer people,” said Deputy Governor of Khuvsgul province. Lake Khuvsgul is the largest freshwater lake in Mongolia. It is one of the most ancient lakes in the world, being more than 2 million years old.
