Annual Ice climbing competition themed ‘Ice Challenge Mongolia’ was co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and Mongolian National Climbing Federation in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, one of the most popular tourist destination in Mongolia that is close to the capital city. Ice Challenge Mongolia competition has helped the ice climbing sport to become not only new trend of extreme sports amateurs but also a national brand event that attracts athletes and enthusiasts to Mongolia, encouraging winter tourism. The event has been organized since 2012 at the initiative of State Honored Athlete, Mountian climber G.Usukhbayar and Mongolian travel operator 'Mongolia Expeditions' company. This time, over 50 athletes of 11 teams from Mongolia and foreign countries attended the competition. Moreover, dog sledging and quad biking tours were organized during the competition. Winters here in Mongolia are long and cold, with temperatures typically ranging from -20°C to – 45°C degrees. Although winter in Mongolia is cold and harsh, it is considered to be beautiful and suitable for many adventure seekers. Thus, some actions are being taken to develop this sector, one of which is the ice climbing competition. So now it’s time to listen to some refreshing music.
