Morin Khuur ensemble invited to “Beautiful Mongolia” concert. The concert is devoted to the 25^th anniversary of the Morin Khuur ensemble of State Philharmonic. The Mongolian State Morin Khuur Ensemble currently gives in Hong Kong as part of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The ensemble brings to audiences a repertoire of refreshing sounds from the vast Central Asian steppes in traditional and modern styles. The ensemble's key instrument is the morin khuur or the horse-headed fiddle which is accompanied by traditional instruments including the cello, dulcimer, yatga or zither), ever buree or Mongolian clarinet, flute and piano. Morin khuur is played in a variety of solo and ensemble settings, especially with the artistic singing of traditional Mongolian song called Urtiin duu or long song and Khoomei throat singing. Vocalists of Khoomei can produce two pitches at the same time through the maneuvering of vocal resonance. The Mongolian State Morin Khuur Ensemble was founded in 1992 with the aims to preserve, promote and transmit the Morin Khuur, a musical representation of Mongolian history, values and cultural heritage. The ensemble has performed in the US, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, Korea and Japan. In 2008, Morin Khuur was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
