The theme was 'Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums'.

International Museum Day was held in Ulaanbaatar under the theme “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums.” On that day, museums in Mongolia, including National Museum of Mongolia, Mongolian Natural History Museum, State History Museum of Mongolia, Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs, Fine Arts Museum and Ulaanbaatar City Museum presented their activities for this year's theme. During the opening ceremony, Head of the Department of Arts and Culture Ts.Erdenebat noted that Mongolia has been celebrated International Museum Day for the 14th consecutive year since 2003 and the Day’s celebration is important in raising the public awareness of the importance of museums and exhibitions in preserving the unique and historical cultural heritage of Mongolia. Mongolia has around 45 museums and the number of galleries and private collectors has increased in recent years, help preserving the historic and cultural heritages of Mongolia. The number of foreign tourists and Mongolians interested in museums increase in recent years and it shows the public involvement in safekeeping the cultural heritage of Mongolia.
