Gobi bears, known as Mazaalai in Mongolia, are found in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and is listed as endangered by Mongolian Redbook of Endangered Species. Only a small population or around 20-40 Gobi Bears are thought to currently survive in the Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area. Mazaalai gave birth while hibernating and come out of hibernation with their cubs. In the early spring, in Tsogt soum of Gobi-Altai aimag, a mazaalai with twin cubs was spotted by wildlife keepers. In this regard, research teams, including Bear International Association, Institute of General and Experimental Biology at Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and 'Gobi Bear’ team of the Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area has been jointly carrying-out studies in the region since April 26.
