Renewable energy strategy is to be determined. The 8th Renewable Energy Forum is being held on May 5 under the auspices of the Prime Minister. The forum will seek to determine the sector’s development strategies and solving problems. Mongolia boasts rich solar and wind energy resources and the forum organizers underline that renewable energy sector should be developed with carefully established policies to exploit such a wealth. The Salkhit wind farm, commissioned four years ago with cost of USD 120 million, is now supplying 3-4 percent of the centralized energy system. One of the most important additions to the country’s energy sector was the commissioning of a 10MW solar power plant built near Darkhan city, took place in January this year. Also, the second wind power plant with 50MW capacity is under construction in South Gobi province. As a result, the capacity of renewable power source will is expected to reach 120 MWT by the end of this year. Although there are positive outlooks and opportunities in the sphere of renewable energy, lack of professional cadres and policy regulations remain pressing issues.
