Mongolia welcomed 76.6 thousand tourists in first quarter of 2017. Tourist arrivals comprise 12 percent of the total number of visitors. Chinese citizens comprise larger part of the total number of tourist arrivals, followed by citizens of the Russian Federation, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The number of Russian and Chinese visitor arrivals in Mongolia increased by about 55 and 25 percent respectively, however the number of Hong Kong visitors dropped by 30.5 percent. More than 45 percent of the total number of tourist arrivals since 2000 were from Europe, while some 46 percent were from the Asia-Pacific region and more than 7 percent were from America, reported the General Authority for Border Protection. Mongolia witnessed highest number for visitor arrivals in 2012 with almost 480 thousand visitors in the country.
