Traditional Yak festival held
Annual event “Yak of Saikhan” was held for the 5th time in the Vulture valley of the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain.
Traditional Yak festival was held. Annual event “Yak of Saikhan” was held for the 5th time in the Vulture valley of the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain. The festival aims to preserve the traditions related to Yak breeding, increase the Yak population, increase public awareness of this wonderful animal, support Yak breeders and encourage their initiatives. The festival had herders from 6 Gobi locations where the Yaks are raised. During the festival there was held a Yak race, a competition to comb and load the Yak. There was also organized the sale of dairy products made of the Yak milk, and clothes made of Yak wool. Yak milk has a higher solid, fat and protein composition than dairy cow or goat milk. Yak milk is richer in calcium and iron than cow’s milk. It also contains “amino acids and fatty acids, and high levels of antioxidant vitamins. Yak wool is very warm and shiny having a higher lustre than wool.
