Mongolia’s leading innovative designer Ariunaa Surenjav was featured on NHK World.
Mongolia’s leading innovative designer Ariunaa Surenjav was featured on NHK World past Wednesday. Ariunaa’s story was told in the scope of a project “Her story” which tells about leading women who make contribution to Asia’s socio-economic growth. Fashion designer Ariunaa Surenjav is famous for stunning creations that combine Western influences with traditional Mongolian nomadic dress. Trained in Germany as a designer Ariunaa returned to Mongolia in 2011. In 2013 she participated in the Tokyo Fashiopn Week, one of the world’s finve major fashion shows. In 2014, at the Sochi Winter Olympics Ariunaa was responsible for designing the Mongolian team’s uniform. Her design which used the domestic cashmere won the third prize of the Games’ best fashion. Designer Ariunaa uses many different materials including Mongolian cashmere, sheepskin and wool. Every year she completes 300 different designs. Her latest designs feature species threatened due to the destruction caused by mining, and she highlights the need for environmental action as she tries to protect the traditions of Mongolia in danger of loss through economic development.
