Reindeers suggested bringing from Russia
Reindeers are suggested bringing from Russia.
Reindeers are suggested bringing from Russia. The proposal was made at a recent meeting of the Presidential office with reindeer herders in northern Mongolia. Previously, some reindeers were brought from Turkey, however during the transportation they were exhausted and were bad to adapt to the re-introduced environment. Therefore, reindeers should be brought from Russia by foot, suggested the reindeer herders. The presidential office had been to the reindeer herding community, locally known as the Tsaatan herders to monitor the implementation of the 2013 presidential decree on improving the living and education conditions of the Tsaatan herders, on guaranteeing their health and social protection and reviving reindeer breeding. Under the decree more than 250 Tsaatan herders of Tsagaan Nuur soum of northern Huvsgul province are paid monthly allowances which become nowadays the fundamental source of their living. Students from Tsaatan reindeer herders’ families receive also some financial support to pay their tuition fees. The Tsaatan reindeer herders suggest restructuring tourist camps which are located too close to Huvsgul Lake and pollute the Lake environment and to produce a special designated tourism route to improve the tourism management and to protect Huvsgul Lake area. Past year Huvsgul had some 73000 tourists. Further government policy to support the reindeer herders and increase the reindeer population would help save the specific ethnic group in northern Mongolian taiga.
