Mongolia has got reserves and plans to increase renewable energy production

Mongolia’s planning to implement ten projects in the solar and wind energy sector in the next five years, told Parliamentary Speaker Mr Z.Enkhbold speaking at the recent Renewable Energy Forum in Ulaanbaatar. It’s USD 1.5 billion worth project to increase the renewable energy production which presently accounts for only 8% of the overall energy production in the country. The Speaker said Mongolia’s got the reserves to produce up to 2.6 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity using the solar, wind, hydro and geothermal energy. According to the Atlas of Mongolian Wind Reserves, 10% of Mongolian territory has got fabulous wind reserves and using that reserve, Mongolia could generate 2.5 million gigawatt-hours of usable electricity. As regards the solar energy, Mongolian Gobi is the tremendous source of solar energy with 270 sunny days a year, told the Speaker of Parliament.
