This year's livestock death toll is projected to climb to 1.2 million over the coming weeks. The severe winter, locally named the dzud threatens the livelihoods of some 500,000 Mongolian nomadic herdsmen or one-sixth of Mongolia’s overall population. Mongolian government in partnership with international organizations has been delivering food aid, cash grants, hay, animal fodder, medical supplies and warm clothing to aid herders’ communities suffering from the die-off and struggling most.
