Copper smelting plant is to be built in eastern Mongolia. The annual capacity of the plant will be 530,000 tons of enriched copper. The construction of the plant is planned to be completed by 2018, with a total investment of 400 million USD. The decision was based on the several factors such well-developed infrastructure, location advantage between two large copper deposits, and possibility to solve the management of sulphuric acid processing in an environmentally friendly manner. Moreover, it is located in an area with a high geological concentration of fluorspar and between fluorspar enrichment plants. The copper smelting plant location is only 50 km distant from the highway from Ulaanbaatar to Zamiin-Uud on the Chinese border.
