The Project aims to increase the means and availability of public transport services in Ulaanbaatar, connect sub-centers, reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, and develop tourism. Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, is divided into two parts by the Tuul river and the railway. When the cable car is put into operation, it will be possible to travel between these two divided areas or 4.2 km in 11 minutes. Each cabin will have a capacity of 10 passengers, and it is estimated to have a capacity of 2300 passengers per direction. The project is being implemented by the POMA Group with a soft loan from the Republic of France. The construction work will begin this March and it is planned to be completed in 2025. The implementing unit director underscored the vast experience of POMA Group in construction cable car in many countries while highlighting the technical features, including heated cabins for winter comfort, ventilation for summer travel, dual power sources for reliability, and safety equipment ensuring secure transportation.
