The 15th Mongolia – India Joint Military Exercise “Nomadic Elephant – 2023” is taking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on July 17-31.
The 15th Mongolia – India Joint Military Exercise “Nomadic Elephant – 2023” is taking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on July 17-31. The Exercise “Nomadic Elephant” is an annual training event with Mongolia which is conducted alternatively in Mongolia and India, the last edition was held at Special Forces Training School, Bakloh, India in October 2019. The aim of the "Nomadic Elephant" exercise is to build positive military relations, exchange best practices, and develop inter-operability, bonhomie, camaraderie, and friendship between the two armies. The primary theme of the exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain under a United Nations mandate. The scope of this exercise involves Platoon Level Field Training Exercise (FTX). During the exercise, Mongolian and Indian troops are engaging in various training activities designed to enhance their skills and capabilities. These activities include endurance training, reflex firing, room intervention, small team tactics, and rock craft training. The “Nomadic Elephant” Exercise gives the opportunity to the soldiers from both countries to learn from each other’s operational experience. India and Mongolia have a shared commitment to regional security and cooperation. The Exercise will be yet another significant milestone in the defense cooperation between the Indian Army and Mongolian Army which will further foster bilateral relations between the two nations, relevant officials noted. At the opening ceremony, on behalf of Defense Minister of India, Ambassador Mr. Singh handed over two “Made in India” ambulances to the Armed Forces of Mongolia and 200 pieces of winter clothes specially designed for high-altitude mountaineering. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the progress of the ‘strategic partnership’ between the two countries through intensifying cooperation in the defense sector.
