UN to Promote Ulaanbaatar Dialogue

Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations Izumi Nakamitsu paid a courtesy call to President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa on June 16. Acknowledging the successful organization of the 8th “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on Northeast Asian Security” international conference, President Khurelsukh highlighted the significance of intensifying the international community efforts and diplomatic actions, especially peace negotiations and dialogues would be the best solution to establish peace in the Korean Peninsula. In addition, the President reaffirmed that Mongolia has consistently fulfilled its obligations to the United Nations in promoting global peace and security and will continue to pursue these efforts. At the outset of the meeting, the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs of the UN Izumi Nakamitsu conveyed warm greetings of Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres to the President. Then, she affirmed the UN's intention to further promote the “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue”, which is playing an important role in ensuring security in the Northeast Asia region. She emphasized that Mongolia has been proudly fulfilling its obligations to the international community and declared its status as a nuclear-weapon-free country, setting an example for other nations. Izumi Nakamitsu expressed appreciation for Mongolia's pursuit of a peaceful, open, independent, and multi-pillar foreign policy, particularly in the midst of current geopolitical tensions, and her readiness to closely cooperate for global peace and security.
