Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city D. Sumiyabazar met Tapan Mishra, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Mongolia, and Marco Toscano, the Chief of the Regional Office for Asia and Pacific, UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and exchanged views on disaster reduction and prevention. While welcoming the guests, the Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city D. Sumiyabazar said, “The global focus is on reducing and mitigating disasters caused by past events on the international scene. As well as reducing existing risks, it is equally important to prevent the creation of new risks. In 2016, Ulaanbaatar joined the world’s leading global collaboration to strengthen urban resilience - Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) of the UNDRR to share experiences with other cities and create safer city. We aim to organize and take disaster risk reduction measures, leveraging cross-sectoral collaboration, public-private partnership, and public participation.” Mongolia has joined several UN initiatives and documents, namely “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” “Millennium Development Goals,” “Paris Agreement” and “The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction”.
