The 9th annual “Silver Reeds Cluster-2023” festival, which is aimed at promoting the ethnic groups in the western region and developing winter tourism and sports, was held on January 21-22. Khar-Us Lake is the former nesting habitat of the Dalmatian Pelican. Thus, the conservation of this endangered subpopulation and nature are main goals of this winter festival. Local administrations pointed out that over 20.000 people came to the festival this year. The increased numbers show that the festival is getting more well-known around the country and has become one of the biggest winter activities in the western region. During the festival, many activities were held on the lake, such as: a horse sleigh, photo shooting with camel, skating, etc. The festival was organized as the first winter activity this year as part of the Government’s declaration of the “Years to Visit Mongolia”.
