The National Forum for Women in Mining took place for the 2nd year with more than 500 women representatives in the Mongolian mining sector, geology, oil and heavy industries. Under the initiative by the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the forum was organized at a larger scale with more participation from both public and private sectors. The slogan for this year’s forum was “Minerals and Women”. At the forum, participants noted that the mining and extractive industries are presently dominated by men, but women work with the same, if not better, performance as men. Currently, 14 percent of all workers in Mongolia are in mining sector and extractive industries. According to the report of Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, in 2018, the mining and extractive sectors made up 24 percent of national GDP, 87 percent of exports, and over 30 percent of state budget revenue.
