Mongolia and the US pledge to deepen Expanded Comprehensive Partnership

The 13th Consultative meeting between the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Department of State took place in Washington D.C. At the meeting, the parties discussed the achievements in bilateral relations and cooperation in 2018 and exchanged views on further cooperation and joint projects. As a result of the Prime Minister’s visit to the US in 2018, ties between the countries have been advanced to the Expanded Comprehensive Partnership. The sides also jointly presented the roadmap for expanding economic cooperation and the Second Compact Agreement was signed with the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The parties mutually expressed their willingness to continue the high-level talks. The US side emphasized that the ‘LEAD Mongolia’ program will continue until 2021 and the exchange of Peace Corp Volunteers and researchers within the Fulbright Scholar Program will be increased. In addition to expressing their positions on the regional and international issues, the sides discussed the opportunities to further diversify and stabilize Mongolia's economy, strengthen the transparency and open government, continue the fight against financial crime and money laundering, strengthen Mongolia’s capacity in this field, investing in the infrastructure and energy sectors. The parties also shared views on the possibility of expanding cooperation in civil aviation and mining safety.
