The Authority for Fair Competition and Consumer Protection or AFCCP organized ‘National Discussion on Consumer Protection’ at the Government House to discuss the implementation of the law on consumer protection, solve urgent issues and discuss future policy with relating ministries and offices. Over 600 representatives of the AFCCP and consumer protection NGO s attended the discussion. At the start of the discussion, Deputy PM Enkhtuvshin highlighted the numerous successful operations done by the AFCCP, such as giving suggestions and publishing guidance books on protecting consumer rights, fining companies that violated the law and clearing the law violations. He said, “Private companies work with the motto “Customer is king”. But instead, people are becoming victims to expired products, apartments that don’t meet standards and illegal services. It is time to make the motto into reality.” Head of the AFCCP said, “The AFCCP operates according to its legal duty. The reason for the insufficient results is due to the fact that there is no given right for our organization. For instance, it isn’t stated in the law for AFCCP to help solve the issue related to petrol price increase.” The AFCCP established the Consumer Information Center in 2016. Since the beginning of last year, the center received over 3,600 requests, complaints and information. While most of it related to legal counseling, the others were about apartments, services and petrol.
