Retirement ceremony of 70th Yokozuna takes place
He performed his very last “Yokozuna dohyō-iri” ceremony with the company of current Mongolian Yokozunas, Hakuho M.Davaajargal, and Kakuryu M.Anand.
The retirement ceremony of the 70th Yokozuna, Grand Champion in the Japanese sumo, Harumafuji from Mongolia took place in Tokyo. Harumafuji is the 5th non-Japanese and the 3rd Mongolian wrestler to attain the Yozokuna status. He performed his very last “Yokozuna dohyō-iri” ceremony with the company of current Mongolian Yokozunas, Hakuho M.Davaajargal, and Kakuryu M.Anand. The topknot cutting ceremony began afterward. Fellow Mongolia, former sumo wrestler, the 68th Yokozuna Asashoryu D.Dagvadorj, attended the ceremony as well. Since the announcement of retirement, Harumafuji or D.Byambadorj has made investments in the education sector. He also has talent in art and has had his own exhibition opened in Japan. Harumafuji who started sumo wrestling at the age of 16 in 2001 got promoted to the top Makuuchi division in 2004 where he won 9 championships. He attained the highest rank, Yokozuna by winning 2 consecutive championships in September 2012.
