‘Low Carbon City Development: Improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions’ is being discussed.

At the initiative of the Governor of Capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city, the Northeast Asian Mayors’ Forum is being organized for the 3rd year. Representatives including 18 mayors, decision-makers of six countries and 300 delegates of international organizations are holding discussion under the topic ‘Low Carbon City Development: Improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions’. “The regional and international issues are being discussed because 60 percent of a total greenhouse gas is released in urban areas. On the other hand, we can’t deny the fact that greenhouse gas is showing an impact on climate change and ecological revolutions. So, introducing selected technology that requires low expenses and shows the result in a short time can be a good solution for development of a city. Mongolia is severely affected by climate change due to its geographical location, vulnerable ecosystem and economic structure dependent on weather. The frequency of drought and dzud, the heavy winter has been increasing, consequently, a number of people moving from rural areas to large urban areas grows. It resulted in unplanned city expansion, and air and soil pollutions." Mayor of Capital city and Governor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold said. On the first day of the forum, sub-meetings were held with themes ‘Guidelines for Green City Development’ and ’Technology solutions of low carbon cities and good practices’.
