2018 East-Asia judo championships held in Ulaanbaatar

At the 2018 East-Asia Judo Championships, in women’s 53 kg Sosorbaram claimed gold and in men’s 73 kg Khadbaatar won gold.

The 2018 East-Asia Judo Championships was successfully held on June 9-10 at the Central Sports Palace. In women’s 53 kg Sosorbaram claimed gold, Zou Zhen of China won silver and Jiang Zhi Ying of Taiwan won bronze respectively. In men’s 73 kg Khadbaatar won gold, Erchaogetu Amu of China claimed silver and Chia Hung Chien of Taiwan got bronze. Khadbaatar said that it was his first East-Asia Judo Championships and that the Korean athlete he competed with for the gold was the strongest opponent. He aims to take part in the 2020 Olympics.

Of five teams competing in the female team category, teams of China, Mongolia, and Korea took the first three places. As for male team category, teams of Korea, Mongolia, and Taiwan led.

Assistant Director of the Judo for Peace Commission at the International Judo Federation Pagva emphasized that organizing this kind of major event in the country will make it possible for athletes to collect the score they need to participate in the continent and world championships. The championships juries included 15 foreign and 6 Mongolian judges led by Takao Kawaguchi from Japan, Moon Won-bae from South Korea and Vladimir Votrykov from Russia.
