Khushig Valley New International Airport conducted its first test-flight and the test was successfully performed by MIAT Airlines SOE’s B737- 800 aircraft. MIAT Airlines SOE will check and approve the flight procedures and submit them to Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia. The airport is scheduled to start operation in October 2018. The joint management team between Mongolia and Japan will be responsible for the airport’s profitability and loan repayments. “Japanese side will form 51 percent of the management team and the remaining 49 percent will consist of Mongolian workforce,” said Bat-Erdene Jadamba, Minister of Road and Transport Development. The New Ulaanbaatar International Airport or the Khöshig Valley Airport is a new international airport presently under construction 52 km south of Ulaanbaatar city center in Sergelen soum, Tuv Province, Mongolia. It is designed with a capacity of up to three million passengers per year, and has sufficient space for a possible future expansion, making it potentially capable of serving twelve million passengers yearly. It will also be equipped with a 24-hour all-weather air traffic control system. The average annual number of passengers is estimated to be around 2.5 million. There will be 2 runways, a road and rail terminal and a town nearby with a population of about 100 thousand people. The airport is designed with a capacity to carry 1,100 passengers per hour. Considering the mentioned features, the new airport will have more passenger capacity with international standard technologies than the current airport.
