The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction will provide a grant-in-aid of 2.5 million USD to Mongolia for improving water quality in Mongolia. ADB’s country director in Mongolia, Yolanda Fernandez Lommen, stated, “Improved water and natural resources management will have a substantial impact on Mongolia’s further development. 1 million USD of the grant will be dedicated to technical assistance. The grant will be closely aligned with the government of Mongolia’s policies and actions to strengthen government services and ensure inclusive economic growth”. The recent report of UN`s human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation of Mongolia concluded that the Government of Mongolia needs to prioritize the quality and equal access to drinking water and sanitation. Currently, about 80 percent of Mongolians collect their water from outside water kiosks and 59 percent use pit latrines.
