According to the water accounting and auditing of 2007, Rivers in Mongolia have been shrunk by 16 percent, lakes by 28 percent, and springs by 21 percent.

Mongolia’s fresh water reserve is lowered. According to the water accounting and auditing of 2007, Rivers in Mongolia have been shrunk by 16 percent, lakes by 28 percent, and springs by 21 percent. Moreover, the auditing result shows the lowering of ground water reserve by 3 to 5 meters and 40 percent of snow on the snow capped of mountains has been melted. Mongolia’s water reserve consists of 70 percent surface and 30 percent ground water. As a result of the climate change and human activities such as uncontrolled pumping of ground water by households in Ulaanbaatar city, these negative impacts occured.
