A working group meeting, designated to manage development and negotiation on the second Compact agreement, between the Government of Mongolia and US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was held.

US Millennium Challenge Corporation’s second compact to focus on water supply improvement. A working group meeting, designated to manage development and negotiation on the second Compact agreement, between the Government of Mongolia and US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is planned to spend the MCC’s second compact funding on improvement of Ulaanbaatar water supply. In this regard the total water supply of Ulaanbaatar will be increased from groundwater sources and using recycled wastewater from the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant to industrial operations of the Thermal Power Stations. Moreover a comprehensive institutional and legal program and policy will be realized to ensure long-term sustainability of investment efficiency for increasing water supply in Ulaanbaatar. At the meeting, the participants discussed projects and programs to be implemented with the non-repayable funding of US MCC and agreed to deliver the proposals to US side. The parties are also working to sign the Compact agreement in the beginning of the third quarter of this year. The first Compact agreement was signed in 2007 to alleviate poverty by stimulating economic growth and the agreement was completed by 2013.
