Silver coin minted honouring Year of Dog
The silver coin named “Mongol Bankhar” has been issued by the Bank of Mongolia on the occasion of the Year of Dog.
The silver coin named “Mongol Bankhar” has been issued by the Bank of Mongolia on the occasion of the Year of Dog. The Mongol Bankhar which is depicted on the commemorative coin is a type of mastiff and the traditional guard dog of nomadic herders. In accordance with the relevant provision of the Law on State Treasury, new coins are issued to commemorate domestic and high-significance international anniversaries and special occasions. With an aim to enrich coin collection of the State Treasury, the Bank of Mongolia has been releasing gold, silver and bronze coins depicting 12-year animals, endangered animals, famous Mongolian Olympic athletes and other political and public figures since 1972. Last year, “Mazaalai” coin was issued in order to promote Gobi desert bear Mazaalai, which is one of Mongolia's endangered species.
