Snow blizzards sweep into Mongolia from the east. Snow storms hit central, western and northern provinces, reports the Institute for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring. Weather forecasters warned that winds are blowing at up to 20 meters per second and temperatures are continuing to drop at an alarming rate. The Traffic Police Department issued a warning to drive carefully on rural roads due to increased risks of slippery road from snow storms. The traffic police advised drivers to stay on high alert when driving within and outside of Ulaanbaatar and recommended that travelers drive slowly on slippery roads and at night or when visibility is limited. Snow storms are very dangerous for Mongolian herders and the livestock and could cause Zud, severe winter disaster that kill the livestock by freezing them to death.
