Oyu Tolgoi expands safety measures and corporate social responsibility
The latest expansion of Oyu Tolgoi is that it opened its Risk Demonstration Center in Ulaanbaatar to raise awareness about the common workplace risks of a mine site.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Mongolia's largest copper and gold mining company, is a strategic partnership between the Government of Mongolia, Turquoise Hill Resources, and Rio Tinto. Oyu Tolgoi is the biggest mining operation in Mongolia and its 93 percent workforce is Mongolians. It is the biggest tax generator for the past 4 years in Mongolia. The latest expansion of Oyu Tolgoi is that it opened its Risk Demonstration Center in Ulaanbaatar to raise awareness about the common workplace risks of a mine site. During the opening of the center, CEO of Oyu Tolgoi Armando Torres spoke about the successful establishment of a similar center for employees at the OT mine site in 2013 and highlighted that the new center in Ulaanbaatar will be open to the public. Moreover, Oyu Tolgoi handed over “Made in Mongolia” eco-buses to South Gobi province. Eco-buses were made by Mongolian engineers through “Umnugovi public transportation improvement project”, which is one of the 65 projects of “Gobi Oyu Development support fund".
