World’s first silver shoes made in Mongolia
Mongolian silversmith Uuganbaatar.L who has been doing the silver craft work for eight years made the world’s first silver shoes.
Mongolian silversmith Uuganbaatar.L who has been doing the silver craft work for eight years made the world’s first silver shoes. Completing his pair of man`s silver shoes with European size of 39 size or 9.5 in inches took him for over five years. Uuganbaatar.L makes traditional silver cups and statues of Buddhas, however; following his ambition for making something unique, he decided to make the first silver pairs. The pair was made from 1.4 kilograms of silver with the millesimal fineness of 999 and 925, leather, fish scale, glue and other materials weighing 930 grams each. According to Uuganbaatar, making a pair of shoes for men is more difficult than making one for women. Moreover, the techniques used in making the shoes is special as it is not as simple as gilding; he used all the four techniques silver craftsmen learn to master. Uuganbaatar values his pair of silver shoes at 50 million MNT which is around 2000 USD.
