Disaster-prone herders receive financial aid

Mongolian Red Cross Society granted more than 1 thousand herder households a financial aid of 240.000MNT which is around 100USD each or about 115000USD aid in total in cooperation with The British Red Cross Society. The financial aid budget was submitted in order to help the herders who are prone to disastrous dzud, the term for severe winters of Mongolia which causes a large number of livestock loss. Accordingly, in Mongolia, the 40 percent of the area is considered to be highly dzud-prone and 30 percent of the country’s area is middle prone to the disaster. The Red Cross Societies started the work with the aim of giving assistance to 2000 herder households living in the most disaster-prone 40 subprovinces in the 12 provinces. They are also about to give fodder and other animal feed to the herders.
