Mongolia and Canada relations in 2017 revised
Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia David Sproule revised Canada-Mongolia relations in his New Year's message.
According to New Year’s message to Mongolians from Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia David Sproule who arrived in September to take office, Canada-Mongolia relations continued to strengthen in many ways in 2017. For instance, in accordance with Canada-Mongolia commercial relations, the Canada-Mongolia Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement was signed earlier in the year. Significantly, last year trade and investment between the two countries remained strongest in the mining sector, where Canada continues to be Mongolia’s single largest foreign investor. Through two flagship projects, Canadians have also worked with their Mongolian partners to improve the management of Mongolia’s extractive sector with the aim of maximizing benefits for Mongolians from their country’s bountiful natural resources. Moreover, according to an announcement by the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation on focusing attention on helping women and girls issued last June, Canadian embassy to Mongolia has been working on exciting new programming to promote gender equality and empower women in Mongolia. “We will celebrate the milestone with a series of exciting public events in both Canada and Mongolia,” writes at the end of the message. Notably, 2018 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Canada.
