Mongolia to support responsible mining

Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry D.Sumiyabazar met David William Sproule, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Mongolia. Noting that Canada is one of the biggest investors to the Mongolian mining industry, the Ambassador emphasized Canadian investors are expecting a stability and certainty from Mongolia. The Ambassador pointed out that three projects have been worked out together with the Mongolian Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism on improving the mining management and doing transparent activities. The Minister underlined the Mongolian Government will always support responsible and transparent companies that contribute to a local development. He said Mongolia will expand the cooperation with Canada and co-implement next projects. "The Government of Mongolia and the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry will collaborate with Canada in implementation of projects of the Ivanhoe Mines, Erdene Resource and Centerra Gold," he said. The Minister also expressed Mongolia’s willingness to cooperate with Canada in several directions such as introducing the most up-to-date mining technologies and empowering specialists.
