Mongolia and UNESCO mark 55 years. Mongolia marks the 55th anniversary of joining the UNESCO on November 1. On this day of 1962, Mongolia joined the UNESCO as its 108th member. Since its fully-fledged membership, Mongolia has been an active member of the UN participating and contributing to its activities and purposes. With the UN membership, Mongolia ensured its independence and sovereignty, safeguarded its security and strengthened its position in the international community. On the occasion of this event, a book titled ‘UNESCO and Mongolia’ was launched at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Moreover, a photography exhibition themed ‘World-registered Mongolian cultural heritage’ was mounted, displaying Mongolia’s UNESCO-inscribed cultural heritage pieces. Mongolia has joined 10 UNESCO Conventions and registered about 30 cultural pieces, including 13 in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Moreover, Mongolia has submitted its Traditional Practices of Worshipping the Sacred Sites to the UNESCO Secretariat for the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the 2017 cycle.
